What is a PEACEPORT Office?
Whether you represent a formal organization, or wish to gather a group
of friends and
colleagues, your team will be guided in establishing a PEACEPORT OFFICE
in your
church, community, or spiritual center. The PEACEPORT OFFICE is simply
an
activated “node” that will hold and coordinate our new resources for
Seasons for Peace
And Nonviolence (S.P.A.N.), more specifically the Youth PEACEPORT
Program. It
can take many forms, depending on your situation. It might be a
physical space, a
group of people, a place on the internet, or evolve into a
fully-fledged ministry or
department within your organization that is continuously in touch with
a larger
network of United Citizens of the Human Spirit.
Who runs the PEACEPORT Office?
The idea behind the PEACEPORT Office is to empower youth to take an
active role
in bringing about a culture of peace and nonviolence. The “Now
Generation” has so
many tools and abilities to be effective organizers, and the PEACEPORT
Office gives
them a chance to fill that role. The target group for PEACEPORT
Officers is the
young adult age range of 17-30. However, with a little more guidance,
high schoolers
in your youth community could also succeed in this role.
What does the PEACEPORT Office Do?
The PEACEPORT Officers serve as organizers and facilitators for the
PEACEPORT Office. The PEACEPORT Office serves as a center for
uniting your
community, religious, or spiritual group around SPAN programs and
events you are
drawn to create or participate in. To begin with, the PEACEPORT
Office will focus
on promoting, developing, and supplying the PEACEPORT curriculum
specifically.
It might be within the church, or in a regional network of churches, or
reaching out
into the community or school systems.
